Lesson 27 Resurrection PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 02 March 2007

As a disciple of Jesus we need to understand the importance of the resurrection as another key foundation stone in our faith. Now we need to understand the significance of Jesus resurrection and how it plays a part in our faith today.

Christians throughout the whole world celebrate Easter as an important Christian festival. I would like to make it clear the Bible does not record the Easter festival; this came about many years later to run in conjunction with a harvest festival. What does Easter mean to this world? “For God so loved the world, that he gave he only son so that whoever believes in him should not die but have an eternal life.” The world has forgotten this free gift from God, and the significance of Jesus resurrection

John 3:16For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (MKJV)

Q1/ God love all the peoples of the world. (True or false)

Q2/ The resurrection is not significant. (True or false)

What Jesus did about this time two thousand years ago is the most the significant thing to happen in the world.

The Bible tells us that Jesus was the Lamb of God who came to take away the sins of the world. But He had to die on the cross to do this. The Bible tells us that it is the blood of sacrifice that was the price He paid for our sins.

John 1:29 The next day John sees Jesus coming to him and says, Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (MKJV)

Q3/ Jesus didn’t come to take the sin away. (True or false)

Q4/ Jesus is the Lamb of God. (True or false)

It is not only the Bible that records the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  It is also recorded in secular history.

A/ Evidence can also be found in Josephus’ writings (Jewish Antiquities),

B/ Hendrik Willem Van Loon AB. PH. D., “The story of Joshua of Nazareth, Whom the Greeks called Jesus”.

Q5/ History has recorded the life and death of Christ. (True or false)

Q6/ The Bible is the only evidence of the life of Jesus. (True or false)

Luke 24:46 And He said to them, So it is written, and so it behoved Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, (MKJV)

Behoved = Must

The Scriptures say that the Messiah must suffer, then three days later he will rise from death.

Is Death the end? We, as Christian’s say, “Death is not the end but it is the beginning of an eternal life with Jesus. He was raised from the grave He is not there any more. He is alive. The Bible tells us that He arose form the grave and He lives. He defeated death, and the grave has no power over Him.

Q7/ Jesus has defeated death. (True or false)

Q8/ They couldn’t keep Jesus in the grave. (True or false)

1John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be. But we know that when He shall be revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. (MKJV)

Q9/ We shall be like Him. (True or false)

Mark 12:25For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are as the angels in Heaven. (MKJV)

We can see is this scripture that we will be raised from death to eternal life. That is to say we will be resurrected to an eternal life with God in Heaven.

Q10/ We will not be resurrected to eternal life. (True or false)

The resurrection, - His and ours

Romans 6:5 For if we have been joined together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection; (MKJV)

Without the resurrection it would be a vain hope to be a Christian, because if there were no resurrection then there would be no hope of heaven.

Q11/ We will be like Jesus. (True or false)

Q12/ We are joined to Jesus. (True or false)

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (MKJV)

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (MKJV)

Let me make one point clear. When you ask God to forgive you of your sins, when you ask Him to come into your heart, He fills you with the Holy Spirit. You then have a certainty in your heart that no one can shake, because you are sure of His existence. This is the wonderful experience of salvation.

Q13/ We need to be born-again to enter the Kingdom of God. (True or false)

Q14/ If we believe in Jesus we will have everlasting life. (True or false)

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. The second death has no authority over these, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him a thousand years. (MKJV)

So the Christian life is about RESURRECTION - His and ours. Our salvation and hope are based on what Jesus Christ did, and on the promises of God. All we need to do to take part in the first resurrection is to believe in Jesus.

Q15/ A Christian doesn’t have the promise of resurrected life. (True or false)

Q16/ We will reign with Jesus for one thousand years. (True or false)

It is sad to say that many people at this time are living only for today and not for eternity. Jesus has proven to all of creation that he is the Son of God, and that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. Some will not accept Jesus free gift and will have to wait until the second resurrection, but it will be too late for them to enter heaven. The second resurrection is for those who are born, live and die in the thousand years now.

Q17/ Would you like to receive the free gift from God and live in forever, instead of just for today? (Yes or No)

Q18/ Are you alive and reading this paper? (Yes or No)

Q19/ Will you be part of the first resurrection? (Yes or No)

Q20/ Would you like to have the promise of God the hope of the Resurrection? (Yes or No)

* If your answer is “yes”, you will need to say a short prayer.

Dear heavenly Father please forgive me for my sins.

I know that you sent your Son into the world to save me and I thank you.

I know, Jesus that you died on the cross to save me, washing my sins away with your blood.

I know that you died and rose on the third day.

I know that you are the Son of God.

Please Lord Jesus come into my heart and live with me.

Thank you Father God that I am born again.

                         Amen
