Lesson 24 Legal Standing in God PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 March 2007

As disciples of Jesus we need to understand our legal position so that we can understand our rights in God as we walk in this world. Knowing our legal rights helps us in our defense against the works of the enemy.

The devil is always trying to deceive or cheat people of their God given rights. Theses lies come in the form of. “You can’t do that, it’s beyond your ability.”

Who do you think you are?

Why would God choose you?

You have always failed.

There are better men of God than you.

What makes you think you can do what God is asking you? etc.

Before we start to wrestle with the enemy let us see where we stand.

Leviticus 25:23  The land shall not be sold forever; for the land is Mine. For you are strangers and pilgrims with Me. (MKJV)

A pilgrim is one who is on a religious trip. Another word that means the same is sojourner.

NOTE: Cross out the incorrect answer. Example (true or   false)

Q1 You are a strangers in this nation. (True or false)
Q2 Are we passing through this world on the way to heaven (True or false)

Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in Heaven, from which also we are looking for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, (LITV)

A disciple of Jesus is one who is not of this world because he or she is only on their way to heaven. They are only passing through. It is just the same for a missionary in another country.

Q3 You are a citizen of another country (True or false)
Q4 When you are in God where is your citizenship  (Another country or Heaven)
Q5 Are you a missionary? (Yes or No)

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but continually be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you may be able to determine what God's will is-what is proper, pleasing, and perfect. (ISV)

Life has many pressures and temptations, which could lead us away from God. If we yield to these we look like everyone else in the world. Then the light of God in us can’t be seen. If we don’t want this to happen we need to bring some disciplines in our life.
Three things we must do: 1. Read the Word of God.
                                               2. Pray to God.
                                               3. Attend fellowship with the saints (Church).
This will help to transform us and form us into His likeness (Jesus).

Q6 Reading the Word of God is important? (True or false)
Q7 Praying to God is a waste of time. (True or false)
Q8 Going to Church is good for you. (True or false)
Q9 Doing only two out of the three is enough. (True or false)

Titus 2:12 teaching us that having denied ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live discreetly, righteously and godly, in this present world, 2:13 looking for the blessed hope, and the appearance of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, (MKJV)

Here again we can see that teaching is the thing that helps us to overcome temptation and shows us what is our glorious reward.

Q10 Learning the Word of God helps us to overcome. (True or false)

Colossians 3:4 When Christ our Life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. 3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness (which is idolatry), (MKJV)

When you live a Christian life people will see Christ in you. They will see that your life is much better and different from theirs. Because we are already in heaven with Christ we should show self-discipline. Lack of discipline is idolatry.

Q11 Fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness are all right in your life. (True or false)

1John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He is revealed, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before Him in His coming. (MKJV)

If we stay in Jesus Christ we can be confident in our destination, but the inverse is, if we don’t stay in His teachings the end is not good.

Q12 We don’t need to stay in Christ to get to heaven. (True or false)

Finally when the enemy is telling us a lie we should confess or speak out the Word of God. It is in the Word of God we find our legal position and we can extinguish the arrows of the enemy. The enemy is not only the devil but can be our stinking thinking.

So how do we do this let us look at some examples:

A/ You are asked to speak in the fellowship and you say to your self “I can’t do that I am afraid” you are believing a lie.
The Word of God says:
Philippians 4:13 I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me. (GW)

Q13 The Word of God is not true. (True or false)
Q14 Christ will strengthen us. (True or false)
Q15 What God ask us to do can we do it? (True or false)

B/ “There are better men of God than I”.
The Word of God says:
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (MKJV)

Q16 If you are in Christ you are condemned. (True or false)
Q17 If you walk according to the Spirit you are not condemned. (True or false)
Q18 If you walk according to the flesh you are not condemned. (True or false)

C/ “You have always failed.”
The Word of God says:
1John 2:13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. (MKJV)

Q19 If you believe in Jesus you have not overcome. (True or false)
Q20 You are legally in heaven with Jesus. (True or false)
