Lesson 22 Is the Healing of the Bible for today? PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 March 2007

The Word of God is the truth and the matter of healing is settled. From my experience in serving the Lord in different countries and seeing people being healed, I am convinced that healing is for today. Please don’t take my word on this matter please read the Bible to see what God has to say about healing for today.

All disciples of Jesus should always read the scriptures to confirm or verify what that the preacher is saying. (Check up on the preacher)

Hebrews 13: 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. (NIV)

Q 1 Is Jesus able to change?…………………………………….

Luke 6:19 and the people all tried to touch him, because power was coming from him and healing them all. (NIV)

There are many stories of Jesus healing.

Q 2 What came out of Jesus?……………………………………………..
Q 3 What did this power do to the sick people?………………………….

POINT 1/ Healing is secured for us in the Atonement.

John 3:14 But even as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, (MKJV)

Isaiah 53:5 1 Peter 2: 24.Part of verse 24 from 1 Peter-  “by whose stripes you were healed”.
John 19; 1 Scourged him (flogged whipped) with a Roman scourge (whip)
These floggings would lead to the person’s back being cut even to the bone. This would leave strips on their back.

Num 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it upon a pole. And it happened that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked upon the serpent of brass, he lived. (MKJV)

Q 4 If the people with Moses looked to the snake what would happen?.................................
Q 5 If we look to Jesus what should happen?……………………………
Q 6 By who’s strips are we healed?……………………………………

POINT 2/ Sickness is the result of Satan’s work, and Christ came to destroy the work of Satan.
Deut 28:1,2 10-14 and Deut 28:15 to 63. In this passage which is called The IF and BUT covenant we can see what is the cause of sickness.

Exodus 15:26 And he said, If with all your heart you will give attention to the voice of the Lord your God, (BBE)

Q 7 Sickness is a result of whose work?…………………………………
Q 8 Who has destroyed Satan’s work?……………………………………
Q 9 If we read and obey the word what will happen to us?……………

Note… NOT ALL SICKNESS is directly from sin or the devil. Some is to glorify God. It could be said that all sickness could be turned around to glorify Him too.

POINT 3/ The Holy Spirit who worked in Jesus, works in the Church today.
1) Promised by Jesus to His disciples.  Luke 24:49; John 14:12-17
2) Jesus said the Holy Spirit would give them Power (Divine ability) to continue His ministry.  John 14:12; Acts 1:8; 3:6
3) The Holy Spirit and His Power is promised to all believers.
        Mark 16:15-18; Acts 2:38-39; 10:44-46; 19:1-6

John 14:12 Truly, truly, I say to you, He who believes on Me, the works that I do he shall do also, and greater works than these he shall do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you may ask in My name, that I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. (MKJV)

Q 10 The Holy Spirit is given to whom?………………………………
Q 11 Why did Jesus give the Holy Spirit to every believer?……………
Q 12 If we believe in Jesus what can we do?…………………………

POINT 4/ The sick were healed in Old Testament times, New Testament times, and today.
OT EXODUS 15:26    NT JAMES 5:13

Exodus 15:26 Then he said, "I am the LORD your God, and I cure your diseases. If you obey me by doing right and by following my laws and teachings, I won't punish you with the diseases I sent on the Egyptians." (CEV)

Numbers 21: 9 And Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it upon a pole. And it happened that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked upon the serpent of brass, he lived. (MKJV)

This serpent on the pole stood in the midst of Israel for several hundreds years until a King called Hezekiah (2 Kings 18: 4) came along and tore down the high places. Part of the verse 4 the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it and called it Nehushtan. It had become a pagan worship.

Note-This symbol is still used today by the medical profession

James 5:14 Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will cure the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up. And if he has committed sins, it will be forgiven him.  (MKJV)

Q 13 Who are we to call upon to receive a prayer for healing?…………
Q 14 What should anoint you with before they pray for you?…………
Q 15 Who should you look to?…………………………………………

POINT 5/ The great commission and the New Testament divine healing covenant commands the practice.

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power, the Holy Spirit coming upon you. And you shall be witnesses to Me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (MKJV)

Mark 16:14 to 18
Q 16 Who shall receive power?……………………………………………

Directives of Jesus
1. Go into all the world
2. Preach the Gospel
3. Baptizing those who believe
4. Healing

Mark 16:20 And going out, they proclaimed everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word by miraculous signs following. Amen. (MKJV)

And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word.

John 15:5 I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (MKJV)

Q 17 Who do we need to have to do these signs and wonders?…………
The outcome of preaching is
1. He who believes will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned. (T or F)
2. Signs will follow those who believe (T or F)

Q 18 If you believe in Jesus you will be …………………………………

 In Jesus name they will
1. Cast out demons
2. They will speak in new tongues
3. Take up serpents
4. If they drink anything deadly it will not hurt them.
5. They will lay hands on the sick and they will recover

CONCLUSION
Authority in Jesus

Luke 9:1B gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases (MKJV)

(MKJV)

James 5:13 to 16 Pray for the sick in the church that means you and me. Please note a person does not have to believe in Jesus for God to heal them; God can use this for their salvation.
We have only touched the surface of healing there is so much more.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. (NIV)

Q 19 Do we believe in the Jesus of the Bible?…………………………..
Q 20 Can we pray for the sick and expect God to do the healing?……
Q 21 Does a person need to be a believer to receive a healing?…………
Q 22 Why does God heal a non-believer?………………………………

Divine Healing just by reading the Word of God can fall into two groups and they are:

1. A sick person reading the Word of God may receive a revelation about their healing and then to stand on that Word.
2. By reading the promises of God they can bring about prevention of sickness. (Divine Health)
