We were once the servants to sin and selfishness. Now as disciples of Jesus Christ, we no longer serve sin but we serve the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Although we are called to be servants of God, Jesus said we are more than servants. We are brothers; sons of God; heirs to the Kingdom. We are a royal priesthood. 1Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for possession, so that you might speak of the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (MKJV) Q1 The Bible says we are a royal priesthood. (True or false) Q2 If you believe in Jesus you are chosen. (True or false) Now Jesus is pointing out that we need to die to our self-interest, if we are to live a godly life, and to be part of His Kingdom. Sin is put to death in our body simply by faith in Jesus Christ. That is to say we must be born-again - yes born-again into His kingdom, as his child. John 12:23 Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. (NIV) Q3 We are sons or daughters of God. (True or false) Q4 Jesus is not our brother. (True or false) Jesus brings up the subject of serving by saying, “If you serve me you will be with me, and God will honour your effort in serving me.” Again, the requirement is that we give up our desire to serve ourselves and even to hate what the flesh has caused us to do in the past. John 12:25 The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me. (NIV) Q5 When we serve Jesus God won’t honour us. (True or false) Q6 We don’t need to follow the teaching of Jesus. (True or false) Q7 We will be with Jesus if we serve Him. (True or false) Titus 3:3 We used to be stupid, disobedient, and foolish, as well as slaves of all sorts of desires and pleasures. We were evil and jealous. Everyone hated us, and we hated everyone. 4 God our Savior showed us how good and kind he is. 5 He saved us because of his mercy, and not because of any good things that we have done. God washed us by the power of the Holy Spirit. He gave us new birth and a fresh beginning. (CEV) Here in the book of Titus, it is clear that we were once slaves to all types of things, which only satisfied our body or our fleshly appetites. The slavery we were under did not make us nice people, but it caused us to hate others and others to hate us too. Q8 God our Savior showed us how good and kind he is. (True or false) Q9 When we serve our own flesh we will be like God. (True or false) Q10 When we serve our flesh we will still go to heaven. (True or false) Now if we are in Jesus there is no condemnation, but we must be born again to be in Jesus. Then, if we are in Jesus, we are near to God through what Jesus did - plus nothing. It was His blood that paid for our sins. Ephesians 2:13 But now, in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (ISV) Q11 A born-again Christian is not condemned. (True or false) Q12 The blood of Christ has not paid for anything. (True or false) Another point the Scriptures make, is that we have been set free from serving sin. Now we serve God in our ministry to HIM. But we need to move on in our maturity, and that takes the form of serving others and being served by others. Galatians 5:13 For, brothers, you were called to liberty. Only do not use the liberty for an opening to the flesh, but by love serve one another. (MKJV) Q13 We have received freedom to satisfy our own self. (True or false) Q14 We should be served by everyone and do nothing ourselves. (True or false) Q15 If we are mature Christians we will serve others.(True or false) We have been given so much from God through His Son. He came like man to serve man by dying and rising from the grave. This perfect sacrifice is what set us free, and is a perfect example for us to follow. We receive healing in many different ways. The most significant one is our spiritual healing gained through our salvation. We are no longer bound by sin, but we have freedom. Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. You have received freely, freely give. (MKJV) Q16 If we have received our salvation freely, we should tell no one about Jesus. (True or false) Q17 We should pray for the sick. (True or false) Q18 What you have received from God you should freely give it away. (True or false) Finally, there are different ways in which we can serve, but we need to understand people’s different gifting, and understand how God Has placed us all in the body to do different jobs. There are many jobs in the Church, which need someone to do. If there is no one to do a particular job, it doesn’t get done or the pastor must do it all. This is not satisfactory because if the pastor does all the work the body is not doing the work of the ministry. The evidence is that the fellowship will not grow, or it will only grow to the ability of the pastor. Act 6:1 And in those days, the disciples having multiplied, a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews occurred, because their widows were overlooked in the daily serving.2 And the Twelve called near the multitude of the disciples and said, It is not pleasing to us, leaving the Word of God, to serve tables. 3 Therefore, brothers, look out among you seven men being witnessed to, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this duty. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. (MKJV) Q19 Not everyone is called to serve. (True or false) Q20 We should all look for a job to do in the church and offer ourselves. (True or false) If you have made Christ your Lord, that is to say he is your God and he is in control of your life, He will care for you. But some people find it hard to hand over their life to Jesus, because they want to control their own lives. We all need to place Jesus on the throne of our hearts. Then, it is out of this relationship that we will want to help others. But it takes a great sacrifice to come to this place. Do you want Jesus to be your Lord and to serve Him with all your life? If you do you will serve others too, and you will receive something you did not expect. That is respect and love of other people. If Jesus is truly your Lord, you will be willing to serve His people.
