Lesson 18 The Heart PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 01 March 2007

As disciples of Jesus we can learn how the heart can play a role in our daily life.

How we feel in our heart can affect the way in which we deal with the day.

Proverb 18: 15 The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out. (NIV)

1/ A discerning heart acquires………………………………
2/ The ear of the wise seek…………………………………

Note: As we have walked in this world, we have had dreams and wishes for life, and at times we have been broken-hearted not knowing which way or what we could do.
The heart in the scriptures is regarded as the source of Christian thought and feeling. It is as we bring our mind into subjection to the word of God that heart will be at rest.
The Bible states the following about the heart.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (K.J.V.)

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?  (N.I.V.)

3/ The heart of man is……………………………………..
4/ Can man cure this wicked heart by himself?………………………..
5/ Who can understand it?…………………………………………..

It is the thought-life of man that pollutes man.

Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. (NIV)

6/ What shall we do with our heart?…………………………….

Mark 7:20-22 He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him `unclean.' 21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. 23 All these evils come from inside and make a man `unclean.' " (NIV)

7/ Out of a mans heart comes…………………………………

Psalm 44:21 Would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? (NIV)

2 Titus 1: 14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us. (NIV)

8/ Does God know what is in our heart?…………………………………
9/ Can we hide this from God?……………………………………………
10/ Where does the Spirit of God live?…………………………………..

Jeremiah 17: 10 "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve." (NIV)

11/ God will reward to man according to his……………………………

Note:  It is the heart that will get an urge to do something and then it is the mind that will make the decisions and it is the heart, mind and body that will pay the price. But if we read the Word of God, with our mind the heart will be renewed everyday and the body will follow. The Word will travel from the head to the heart.
By praying to God he will help us to change our hearts.
For the believer.
Note: It is at the time when we see in our heart an attitude of sin, which dwells in our heart that we should seek God’s forgiveness. Of course it’s your free will, you can choose which way you should go. For it is from the heart that desires are born.

12/ Where does sin lie?………………………………..
13/ The Word will travel from the…………..to the………………………

Psalm 139:23,24 Search me, 0 God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (NIV)

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you.(NIV)

CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART
Create in me a clean heart O God,
And renew a right spirit within me.
(Repeat)
Cast me not away from Thy presence O Lord
And take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation
And renew a right spirit within me.

The way for an unbeliever to change his or hers heart.
Note: When we were unbelievers we had to see the depth of our sin to come to the place of repentance therefore, unless an unbeliever can see the depth his or her own sin, they will never be able to take the next step. That is to seek God forgiveness and ask Jesus to come into your life and heart.

Jesus explained this way:-

John 3:3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” (NIV)

14/ What is a word for asking for forgiveness?………………………….

Ezekiel 36: 25  I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. (NIV)

15/ God will take out a heart of…………………………………….
16/ He will gives us four things
(A)……………………………….

(B)……………………………….

(C)……………………………….

 (D)………………………………

Romans 10:8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (NIV)

17/ What is another word for confess?…………………………….
18/ What is it we need to say? Jesus is……………………………
19/ It is the heart we……………………………..
20/ It’s with the mouth that we speak and ask for forgiveness and then we are…………

1John 4: 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13 We know that we live in Him and He in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. 16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. (NIV)

“Where does God live?” In us, therefore we should keep our hearts pure
