We are all disciples of Jesus Christ, whether we hold an official position in the church or not. We are also called to minister in some way in and to the body of Christ. But that is not the end of the matter. We are called to minister to the world. That is the ministry of reconciliation. The word reconciliation means to re-establish friendly relationships or to not be in opposition. As a disciple of Christ we are called to bring people back to God to reconcile (repair, mend) the broken relationship. 2 Corinthians 5: 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. 20 We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. 21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Let us look at the five ministries and see what role they play in the body of Christ Apostles An apostle is one who is sent. The disciples of Jesus were sent out by Him to proclaim the Gospel. Then they were known as Apostles. They have a large portion of authority and have the gift of administration. The duty of the apostle is to carry the Gospel to the world, to establish new churches, and to oversee many churches. 6/ What is the meaning of “Gospel”?…………………………… 7/ The Apostle is strong in…………………………………… Prophets The “prophet” proclaimed the message given to him, as the “seer” beheld the vision of God. (See Num. 12:6, 8.) Thus a prophet was a spokesman for God; he spoke in God’s name and by his authority (Ex. 7:1). He is the mouth by which God speaks to men (Jer. 1:9; Isa. 51:16), and hence what the prophet says is not of man but of God 8/ A Prophet is a………………………….for God. 9/ The Prophet sees……………………….from God Evangelists One who proclaims the Word of God a missionary preacher of the gospel (Eph. 4:11). This title is applied to Philip (Acts 21:8), who appears to have gone from city to city preaching the word (Acts 8:4, 40). Judging from the case of Philip, evangelists had neither the authority of an apostle, nor the gift of prophecy, nor the responsibility of pastoral supervision over a portion of the flock. They were itinerant preachers. Their special function was to carry the Gospel to places where it was previously unknown. The writers of the four Gospels are known as the Evangelists. 10/ An Evangelist…………………….the Word of God 11/ Will they stay in one place for long?………………. Pastors The pastor has responsibility of pastoral supervision over the flock in a church. This is usually a person who has a caring personality. And they are not itinerant preachers but will live in one area for a long time. 12/ A pastor cares for the…………………………………. 13/ Will he leave his sheep?…………………………… Teachers A teacher is one who has the anointing to open the word of God up to other people to help with the understanding the revelations of God in the Word of God. 14/ The Teacher will……………the Word of God Are all to minister? 1 Corinthians 12: 27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way. (NIV) 15/ Are all believers called to be apostle?………………. 16/ Are all believers called to be prophet?…………………. 17/ Are all believers called to be teacher?………………….. 18/ Are all believers called to be ministers?……………………. The answer for 15, 16 an 17 is no, but if there is a need, I believe that all disciples of Christ are called to serve and therefore if the body of Christ calls upon us to fulfill a job, we can make ourselves available. 19/ If you have no teacher and someone needs some teaching what will you do?….. 20/ If we are not called to any of the five giftings can we show the greatest calling?…. …And that is to show…………………… The body of Christ the Church is called to minister to the whole world and the five fold ministry giftings are to teach the body how too. Luke 10: 2 He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (NIV)
