As disciples of Jesus, we are also called His witnesses because we have had a spiritual experience that can only be explained by saying "I know; I know He Lives because He lives in me". A person must have a personal encounter of his or her own with Jesus This can't be learnt; it needs to be experienced. To be born again is to enter into God by repentance, seeking Gods forgiveness, asking for His Holy Spirit to come into your hearts.

Luke 23: 44 It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." When he had said this, he breathed his last. 47 The centurion, seeing what had happened, praised God and said, "Surely this was a righteous man." 48 When all the people who had gathered to witness this sight saw what took place, they beat their breasts and went away. 49 But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things. Jesus said, "You are the light of the world".

Jesus said, "I am the light of the world" (Mt 5: 14); Now He is saying that all believers are the light of the world. Jesus was the witness to God on Earth; therefore we are now the witnesses of God on Earth.

Witness = Martyr One who bears witness of the truth, and suffers death in the cause of Christ (Acts 22:20; Rev. 2:13; 17:6). In this sense Stephen was the first martyr. The Greek word so rendered in all other cases is translated "witness."

It is every believer mandate to fill the calling of God in their environment, if there is no ascension gifting, does that mean we should do nothing? On the contrary we should rise up to fill the position even though we don't have that gifting.
