Faith; I have met some Christians who have said they hope they are going to heaven, but they are not sure. They go on to say if they are good enough they will get to heaven. This is works not faith. This indicates to me that they have the wrong understanding of redemption, salvation, the Word of God and the power of the blood of Jesus Christ. It is sad to say that their foundational teaching has not been sufficient enough to give them assurance of salvation. As Disciples of Christ it is important for us to have the right foundation, and to be able to teach others about assurance of salvation. Ephesians 1: 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace. (NIV) 1/ Who and what has paid for our redemption? and the 2/ Is it by works we are saved? It’s by Gods
Hebrews 11: 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (MKJV) Faith is the foundation of our belief because we need to believe in a God whom we have not yet seen in the physical but in the spirit we can see and believe. 3/ Have we seen with our own eyes?
If we look at our belief just in the mind we will find many disappointments because it is with the heart that we will see many things of God. The book of Romans shows the importance of our belief from the heart. For a Christian the source of our belief and thinking is from our heart. The heart is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Job makes a powerful statement of faith. Job 19:25 For I know that my Redeemer lives. And He shall stand at last on the earth. 26 And after my skin is destroyed this I know. That in my flesh I shall see God. 27 Whom I shall see for myself. And my eyes shall behold and not another. How my heart yearns within me! (NIV) 4/ Job said three things A/ I know that my B/ He shall stand at last C/ That in my flesh I shall
Romans 10: 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (MKJV) 5/ Where do Christians find the origin of their belief? 6/ What is meant by confession?
Ephesians 1: 1 in whom also we have been chosen to an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His own will, 12 for us to be to the praise of His glory, who previously had trusted in Christ; 13 in whom also you, hearing the Word of Truth, the gospel of our salvation, in whom also believing, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the earnest of our inheritance, to the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. (MKJV) 7/ What will you be sealed with? 8/ Who is the purchased possession of God?
Assurance Is to be sure or to be given full understanding of what will be the outcome. John 10; 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. 30 I and the Father are one." (NIV) In verse 27 Jesus makes three points about those who belonging or identifying with Him; the three points are: - 9/ 10/ 11/
In verse 28 He then goes on to make three promises and they are: - 12/ I give them 13/ They shall never 14/ No one can out of My
In verse 29 15/ Who are they the Father has given to Jesus? 16/ No one can take them out of My 17/ Who has one hand and who has the other hand?
Colossians 2: 2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, (NIV) 1 Thessalonians 1: 4 knowing, beloved brothers, your election of God. 5 For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake. (MKJV) 18/ What is another way to say “election by God”? 19/ How does God confirm your selection?
Hebrews 6: 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end. (KJV) 20/ Diligence is to make all
Our walk with Jesus Christ is a walk of faith. Our eyes have not seen Him as yet but by faith we have believed and are saved. We need to come to a place of complete trust in a Divine God and the divine power that lies in the words of God. God has given His Holy Spirit to live in our hearts to confirm His presence. If you feel a lack of assurance in your salvation ask one question. Is the Word of God the Truth? Then you can walk by faith knowing that one day you will see God. You are saved. Be confidant in that Jesus died for you.
