The Sadducees, and disciples of Jesus Christ asked many questions about the resurrection. The disciples asked because of their hope, and the Sadducees to entrap Jesus. The word, "resurrection" means to be raised from the dead, for the great Day of Judgment. Although people who have been clinically dead have been raised to life again, this is not the resurrection we are presently discussing. We are looking at ETERNAL resurrection. The doctrine of the resurrection is a fundamental tenet of the Christian faith. It makes Christianity distinctly different from other religions. 1/ The meaning of resurrection is to be 2/ What is another way to say Sadducees? 3/ Write another word for Doctrine 4/ What is a Fundamental tenet? 1 Corinthians 15: 12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. (NIV) 5/ If there is no resurrection our faith is The first of the resurrection Matthew 16: 21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life. (NIV) Revelation 1: 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. (NIV) 6/ Who is the first of the resurrection? Acts 10: 39 "We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree, 40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. 41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen--by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." (NIV) 7/ Who is the Judge of the living and the dead? The sadness of the world Matthew 22: 23 That same day the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. (NIV) 8/ The Sadducees believe that after death there is Matthew 22: 29 Jesus replied, "You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God. 30 At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven. 31 But about the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what God said to you, 32 `I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living." (NIV) 9/ We will be like the 10/ He is the God of the Reward at the Resurrection Luke 14: 12 Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. 13 But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous." (NIV) 11/ Who should we invite? John 11: 25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" (NIV) 12/Whoever lives and believes 13/ I am the and the Acts 23: 6 Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead." 7 When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. 8 (The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.) (NIV) 14/ What is it the Pharisees believe in? Acts 24: 15 and I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. 16 So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man. (NIV) Hebrews 6: 1 Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, 2 instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. (NIV) 15/ Who is in the final resurrection? and 16 What should we keep clear? 17/ What is the death he is talking about? Our role in Heaven Revelation 20: 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. (NIV) 18/ Who reign with Christ? 19/ Who in the first Resurrection? 20/ Who is in the second Resurrection? The hope that we have is that we will live for an eternity with our Lord Jesus Christ in paradise. People of the world are looking for this too. Let our joy shine.
