When we are saved, we fall in love with Jesus, and we are impacted by His sacrifice (what He did for us). It is interesting to note that when people fall in love, they want to know as much as they can about the other person. It is the same for Christians. They want to know all about Jesus. So the first step is to be saved. But the next step is to become a follower of Christ. A follower is a disciple. 1/ What is our first step? 2/ What is step two? 3/ Who do we want to be like? 2 Corinthians 3: 18 But we all, with our face having been unveiled, having beheld the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are being changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Lord Spirit.(MKJV) 4/ To become like Jesus, is to be 5/ Who is doing the work in us? As we spend time with Jesus we become like Him and people can see Him in us such is the experience of the born again, Spirit filled Christian. Acts 6:8 - Stephen Acts 6: 15 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. (MKJV) Acts 4: 13 But seeing the boldness of Peter and John, and perceiving that they were unlearned and uneducated men, they marveled. And they recognized them, that they had been with Jesus. (MKJV) 6/ What happens when you spend time with Jesus? People see in you. Justified Romans 8: 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestinated to be conformed to the image of His Son, for Him to be the First-born among many brothers. 30 But whom He predestinated, these He also called; and whom He called, those He also justified. And whom He justified, these He also glorified (MKJV) A way to understand the word "justified" is to say, "Just if I'd never sinned" Our legal position in God is we have been cleansed of our sins, and God has forgotten them. Our literal position is we still remember our sins, and even as saints, we have the capability of sinning. We need to confess that we are cleansed from our sins. 7/ Justified is to say, just if 8/ Our legal position is? We have 9/ What has God done with our sins? A disciple is a scholar. The word disciple is sometimes applied to the followers of John the Baptist (Matthew. 9:14), and of the Pharisees (Matthew. 22:16), but principally to the followers of Christ. A disciple of Christ is one who believes His doctrine, rests on His sacrifice, imbibes (drinks) His spirit, and imitates His example (Matthew. 10:24; Luke 14:26, 27, 33; John 6:69).He is a learner, a pupil, a follower and a beginner. 10/ List the four main points of above statement. A/ B/ C/ D/ 11/ What is another word for "imitate"? 12/ What is another word for "doctrine"? What Jesus had to say about being a disciple Example Luke 14: 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me, he cannot be My disciple. (MKJV) 13/ What two things must we do to be disciples of Jesus? and Luke 14: 33 So then, everyone of you who does not forsake all his possessions, he cannot be My disciple. (MKJV) 14/ Do we need to give up everything? John 15: 8 In this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, so you shall be My disciples. (MKJV) 15/ If we are Jesus' disciples who should get the glory? 16/ A disciple will bear much John 13: 35 By this all shall know that you are My disciples, if you have love toward one another. (MKJV) 17/ What is this great thing we must do to show we are Jesus disciples? Matthew 10: 24 A disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. 25 It is enough for the disciple that he is like his master, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more those of his household? ( MKJV) 18/ Are we above Jesus? 19/ Are we above our teachers? 20/ Who do we want to be like?
