Lesson no 36 Life of Jesus according to Mark Part 3As disciples of Jesus that is one who follows Him, we should understand about His life and Ministry on this earth. First we need to look at the four Gospels to understand His character and nature. The four Gospels were written to four different groups of people and therefore they give a different PERSPECTIVE of His life. Q1/ We are only looking at three different groups of people. (True or False) Could you think of four people in your life that you may write a letter to and each letter could be about the same thing, but you write it in a different manner with different emphases on different parts? This was a method used to make Christ appealing to all groups. The Jews place importance on the fulfillment of prophecy, Romans on the man of action, Greeks on embodiment of wisdom. John the Apostle of love wrote about Jesus as the object of faith. Mark is writing to the Romans about Jesus the man of action. Q2/ Matthew is writing to the Romans. (True or False) John Mark who was companion to Paul and Barnabas. Paul had a disagreement with Barnabas over John Mark leaving this leads to Barnabas and Paul splitting up (Acts 13:13, 15:36-40). Later, Paul accepts John Mark again and has him return (Colossians 4:10, 2 Timothy 4:11). It is interesting to note that Mark fled because of persecution, and then latter he writes about Jesus being a man of action. John Mark could have come to the revelation that he was weak and he needed a hero. Q3/ The body Christ the Church can have disagreements. (True or False) Q4/ Mark writes about Jesus as a man of action. (True or False) Q5/ Mark was friend of Paul and Barnabas. (True or False) The book of Mark does not deal with the birth of Christ. (True or False) Q7/ Jesus taught, preached and healed. (True or False) Q8/ Mark looks at the birth of Jesus in detail. (True or False) In this gospel, the reader does not see Jesus as meek and mild. The Son of God is portrayed more like an action hero a superman, moving quickly from scene to scene, healing the sick, casting out demons, and confronting His opponents. The whole text is surrounded in a sense of urgency. Q9/ Jesus is seen as a hero healing and delivering the oppressed. (True or False) Q10/ Mark portrays in his gospel the urgency of Jesus’ Ministry. (True or False) Jesus the Son of Man and the Son of God is described as energetic and tireless as He moves from event to event, revealing more and more physical evidence of His position. Mark 11:15 And they came to Jerusalem. And entering into the temple, Jesus began to cast out those who bought and sold in the temple. And He overthrew the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 16 And He would not allow any to carry a vessel through the temple. 17 And He taught, saying to them, Is it not written, "My house shall be called the house of prayer for all nations?" But you have made it a den of thieves. (MKJV) This scripture clearly show Jesus as a superman as he cleans out the temple. Some Christian see Jesus this way, but as we have already looked at in the last two lesson there is more to His personality. Q11/ Jesus overturned the tables. (True or False) Q12/ Jesus showed anger for unrighteousness in the temple. Q15/ Jesus the perfect leader draws people to Himself and then teaches them the way of God. (True or False) The Public Ministry The next 11 chapters show Jesus moving in the authority given Him by His father in heaven. Jesus moves quickly from one miracle to another again portraying Jesus as man of action. Q16/ Jesus gets His authority from man. Q17/ Jesus explained things to his disciples so they would know what was about to happen. (True or False) We can see that even now Mark portrays Jesus strong in nature, He knows what lays ahead and He is more concerned for His disciples and how they will handle time between His death and His resurrection. Q18/ Jesus was not concerned for His disciples. (True or False) Capture and Execution Chapters 15 show the capture of Jesus and the interrogation of Him.
